Brownfield site one of first to receive an NFR letter using Building Control Technologies
JAS Environmental recently assisted a client in receiving a No Further Remediation (NFR) letter through the state of Illinois’ Site Remediation (voluntary cleanup) Program at a brownfield redevelopment of a former industrial site in the Chicago area. The redevelopment included the construction of a commercial building which utilized a vapor barrier membrane as a building control technology (BCT) as stipulated under the Illinois Tiered Approach to Corrective Action Objectives (TACO) regulations. In July 2013, amendments to the TACO regulations became effective which requires program participants to assess the vapor intrusion route of exposure at sites where volatile contaminants are of concern. This brownfield site was one of the first to receive an NFR Letter which incorporated the use of a BCT as part of the overall site remedy.
